Ras Mohamed national park, one of the attractive places in the Egypt, is the first marine park of the country. Ras Mohamed National Park- A Brief Introduction
Covered an area of 480 square kilometers, this national park encompasses two islands named Tiran and Sanafir. It is the only park that includes both the sea and terrestrial areas of Tiran island (Tiran island is located approximately six km offshore from the Sinai Peninsula). The shoreline starts from the main Sharm-El- Sheikh Harbor and ends to the southern border of the Nabq managed resource protected area. The aforesaid area of the park widens from a point opposite to the Qad Ibn Haddan lighthouse on the Gulf of Suez to the southern border of the Nabq territory on the Gulf of Suez.
History of Ras Mohamed
Located in Gulf of Aqaba, Ras Mohamed was declared as a national park in the year of 1983 for the protection of marine and terrestrial wildlife. However, the development of the park started in the year of 1989. Since then, this national park has become an essential facet to the economic development on South Sinai in Egypt. It is the only national park of Egypt with unique marine life. After declaring it as a national park, it has become one of the greatest tourist attractions in Egypt alluring the attention of travelers from all parts of the world.

Ras Mohamed national park is a perfect combination of sea and land. During their tour to this national park, travelers will found more than 220 species of hard corals and more than 123 species of soft coral. Apart from this, more than 1000 species of fish, 40 species of star fish, 25 species of sea urchins, more than a 100 species of mollusk and above all 150 species of crustaceans. Apart from the aforesaid attractions, sea turtle including the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the hawksbills turtle also allure the attention of travelers.
